Continuing its mission to protect and serve all communities in our area with transparency, equality, and respect, The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety will host its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday August. 6th 4pm-7pm in front of our central station (500 City Center Drive).

This year’s highly celebrated event will give the public a chance to tour multi-agency emergency vehicles, receive safety resources and speak with first responders from Rohnert Park DPS (fire and police), Sonoma State University Police, American Medical Response, California Highway Patrol and the SAFE TEAM.

Ensuring that all guests have a fun time, Rohnert Park DPS will be providing free hot dogs, ice cream and beverages.  The public safety extravaganza will also include a DJ, obstacle course, children’s games, a jumpy house, water balloon toss, and swag.  Crumbl cookies, Amy’s Drive Thru, Target and Starbucks have generously offered to supply “free sample” tables for all to enjoy, and NNO would not be a success without Sponsors such as Grocery Outlet, Downtown Autobody and Future Express Carwash.

As the annual public safety event’s goal is to increase safety for all, while at the same time build unity in our city,  attendees will receive important educational resources from several organizations such as, Verity, CPI- Family Resource Center, Home First, Senior Advocacy Services, The District Attorney’s Adult Protective Services, Latino Service Providers, Rohnert Park Library, the RP Animal Shelter, Rohnert Park City Departments, and the Chamber of Commerce.  “Family Resource Center is at the heart of Community, and National Night Out is an important event to connect with the families that utilize our services,” said Yeni Rodriguez of CPI.

Providing the public with a family centric festival that also gives access to safety resources and the organizations that provide social service assistance, is a win-win for all who live, work, or visit Sonoma County.  As Elece Hempel, the Executive Director of PPSC described, “Petaluma People Services Center’s SAFE Team is excited to be part of the Rohnert Park National Night Out. The SAFE Team recognizes that to continue to build safe communities, we must know our neighbors. NNO gives us all an opportunity to get to know each other.”

No one understands more clearly, how important community comradery and familiarity is to increasing safety in a city, than Director of Public Safety, Tim Mattos.  “Communities are safer when neighborhoods know and care about each other. National Night Out is a time for the public to socialize and build long-lasting relationships with their local Public Safety representatives.  We know that communities who stand together, make it known that crime is not tolerated in their city.”

“We hope to have the largest turnout ever, said J. P.  Pritchard, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety’s Community Engagement Liaison. “There is no substitute for the face- to-face interactions that happen during our National Night Out event. During a time when so many national narratives threaten to tear community apart, we hope our NNO event will bring people to together and show them we are truly “in this together.”
