Flood Advisory until 03:45AM Thursday

Convective rainfall Sunday and warming temperatures Sunday and Monday has resulted in rising water levels. Water levels may drop below minor flood stage briefly in the afternoon on Monday before rising again. Additional heavy rainfall from an easterly wave along with warm temperatures on Tuesday will raise water levels further. Total amounts of rainfall could be higher than expected due to uncertainty in location of heaviest precipitation.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is expected.

* WHERE...The Chilkat River near Areas Around Mile Post 14 And 24 Of The Haines Highway, Near Klukwan And The Chilkat River Bridge.

* WHEN...Until 345 AM AKDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1214 PM AKDT, river gauge reports indicate rises in water levels from a previous area of heavy rainfall across the advisory area. Rapid snowmelt is also occurring and will combine with rain to cause minor flooding. Minor flooding is ongoing, especially near the Chilkat River. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible. - For Chilkat River at Klukwan: At 11:00am the stage was 126.2 feet. Flood Stage is 126.0 feet. Forecast: A crest around 127.5 feet is expected around 4:00pm Wednesday. - For Klehini R NR Klukwan: At 11:00am the stage was 79.2 feet.
