The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, JULY 15, 2024:
4:38 AM Officer Kapu investigated a vehicle burglary near Mirabeau Drive & Cedar Boulevard. Reported loss included sunglasses.
8:17 AM Officer Orozco investigated a disturbance near Newpark Mall Road. A 27-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
1:37 PM Officers responded to Cedar Boulevard & Joaquin Murieta Avenue for the report of a battery. A 25-year-old male was arrested for a bench warrant and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
4:02 PM Officer Kim responded to Cedar Boulevard & Joaquin Murieta Avenue to serve a restraining order. A 28-year-old female was arrested for an outstanding warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
11:54 PM Officer Soto performed a traffic stop near Edgewater & Parkshore Drives. A 48-year-old female was arrested for narcotics and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
TUESDAY, JULY 16, 2024:
12:45 AM Officer Dale responded to a license plate theft near Newark Boulevard & Central Avenue.
6:35 AM Officer Lor investigated multiple vehicle burglaries near Cedar Boulevard & North Magazine Road. The reported loss included a variety of power tools and industrial equipment.
11:21 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a vehicle theft near Mowry School Road & Balentine Drive.
11:42 AM Vehicle Abatement Officer Heckman recovered a stolen vehicle near Central Avenue & Cherry Street.
2:27 PM Officers responded to Newpark Mall for a parked stolen vehicle. One suspect was detained as he approached the parked vehicle. The detained 61-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The second suspect fled from officers and was not pursued by Newark Police officers. The vehicle was eventually involved in a collision in the city of Hayward. A 30-year-old male who was out on bail and active to multiple probations was arrested for outstanding warrants, possession of a stolen vehicle, evasion, and obstructing police officers. They were both transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
2:47 PM CSO Lau investigated a license plate theft near Robertson Avenue & Iris Court.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 2024:
1:35AM Officer Dale responded to a domestic disturbance near Cedar Boulevard & Joaquin Murieta Avenue. A 38-year-old female was booked into Santa Rita jail for battery.
6:28 AM Officers investigated a vehicle theft near Seawind Way & Hickory Street.
6:54 AM Officer C. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle near Cedar Court & Cedar Boulevard.
7:17 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a vehicle theft in progress near Enterprise Drive & Filbert Street. Upon investigation the sunroof of the vehicle was smashed and the vehicle keys were reprogrammed.
1:51 PM CSO Lau investigated the report of a wallet that was stolen from a vehicle near Cherry Street & Dairy Avenue.
8:44 PM CSO Mora investigated a license plate theft near Cedar & Lido Boulevards.
11:16 PM Officer Lor responded to a traffic collision near Mowry School Road & Carrillo Way. A 60-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was released on scene with a citation.
THURSDAY, JULY 18, 2024:
4:06 AM Officer Norvell investigated a window smash vehicle burglary on Newark Boulevard & Civic Terrace Avenue. Reported loss included golf equipment.
7:30 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a disturbance near Cherry Street & Mowry Avenue. A 27-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
8:08 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a report of stolen wheels from a vehicle near Gateway Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue.
9:29 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a family disturbance near Cedar Court & Cedar Boulevard. A 33-year-old male and 37-year-old female were arrested for corporal injury and outstanding warrants. They were both transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
12:10 PM Officer Medina responded to Ash Street Park on the report of a person loitering. A 40-year-old male was arrested for outstanding warrants and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
12:28 PM Officers investigated multiple residential burglary attempts where the point of entry was the rear sliding door. One completed burglary, with a shattered rear sliders, had a reported loss of jewelry.
3:16 PM CSO Lau investigated an attempted vehicle theft on Newark Boulevard & Ruschin Drive. The window was broken into with no reported loss.
4:19 PM CSOs Mora & Lau investigated multiple reports of license plate thefts near Central Avenue & Filbert Street, and Newpark Mall Road.
FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2024:
9:24 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle thefts near Clark Avenue, Cherry Street, & Joaquin Murieta Avenue.
10:27 AM Officer S. Torres responded to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard for a shoplifting incident. A 31-year-old male was arrested and released on scene with a citation.
11:41 AM Officer C. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle near Bettencourt Street & Braidburn Avenue.
5:12 PM CSO Vuong investigated multiple vehicle burglaries. Entry was gained by unlocked doors and window smash. The losses included:
- Bag of personal items and clothing
- Garage door opener
- License Plate
10:39 AM Officers investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries occurring near Newark Boulevard & Bellhaven Avenue. The losses included:
- Vehicle registration documents
- Clothing and personal items
- Camping tent and outdoor equipment
7:09 PM Officer Williams responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Magnolia Street & Baine Avenue. A 48-year-old male was arrested for the possession of narcotics, and an outstanding warrant. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:32 PM Officer Kapu responded to a report of a suspicious person near Lido Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. A 32-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics. While being booked at Santa Rita Jail, he battered staff resulting in additional charges including battery and resisting arrest.
8:46 PM Officer Stevenson responded to the report of a fight near Musick Avenue & Newark Boulevard. A 26-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for public intoxication and battery.
9:59 PM Officer Swadener investigated an attempted vehicle theft on Joaquin Murieta Avenue & Cherry Street. The rear corner window was broken and wires under the steering column were cut.
10:18 PM Officer Swadener investigated a package theft near Roberston Avenue & Birch Street.
11:20 PM Officer Kapu recovered a stolen vehicle near Souza Avenue & Munyan Street.
SUNDAY, JULY 21, 2024:
4:08 AM Officer Kapu recovered a stolen vehicle on Marshlands Road. A 28-year-old male was arrested for narcotics, and possession of a concealed and a ghost gun (unserialized firearm). He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:54 AM Officers responded to a disturbance near Cedar Boulevard & Dupont Avenue. A 34-year-old male was detained on scene and released.
6:20 PM CSO Vuong investigated a vehicle theft on Newpark Mall Road.
10:12 PM Officer Williams recovered a stolen vehicle on Souza Avenue & Burdick Street.
