SMPD Arrests 3 for Organized Retail Theft for Targeting Targets
3 suspects steal numerous household items for trade from San Mateo County Target Stores.
San Mateo, CA – Yesterday, Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 3:47hrs, officers responded to the San Mateo Target Store on report of a theft in progress. Target Asset Protection Associates observed a man and woman conceal items in a suitcase and exit the store without paying via a rear fire door. Officers arrived and located the two at the exterior of the store. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $808.
While conducting our investigation, it was learned the two subjects were associated with a vehicle parked in the lot, occupied by another female. Officers made contact with that female and inside the vehicle noticed items identical to those just stolen. Based on statements, it was learned all subjects had previously visited another San Mateo County Target location. The investigation revealed it was likely the Colma Target location, and this was confirmed by Asset Protection. The items in the car had in fact been stolen and their total value was approximately $280.
All three subjects were placed under arrest for Organized Retail Theft, 490.4(a)(1) PC. During a search incident to arrest, methamphetamine was located on one of the subjects. He was additionally charged with possession of drugs. All three were transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
