The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 14th – July 20th.
July 14th
Theft of License Plates – 1300 block of Liberty St.
At 9:32 AM, an officer reports theft of both license plates sometime overnight.
Warrant Arrest – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:36 PM, officers accepted the arrest of a suspect who wished to turn themselves in. During the investigation, officers found the suspect to have a parole warrant. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving Under the Influence / Battery - San Pablo Ave. / Wall Ave.
At 9:51 PM, officers conducted traffic enforcement stops on two vehicles after a road rage incident occurred. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
Grand Theft – 6700 block of Potrero Ave.
At 11:48 PM, a victim reported the theft of their items that were taken by a family member.
Stolen Vehicle – 900 block of Elm St.
At 01:33 AM, a victim reported their vehicle stolen. At 04:18 AM, an officer located the vehicle unoccupied. The vehicle was returned to the victim.
July 15th
No incidents to report.
July 16th
Identity Theft - 6900 Block of Fairview.
At 1:53 PM, an officer reports a suspect accessed the victim’s account and stole funds during two wire transfers.
Shoplift - 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 2:19 PM, an officer reports the suspect stole merchandise from the business and fled prior to police arrival.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11939 San Pablo Ave. (Home Depot):
At 8:09 PM, officers received a Flock alert of a stolen vehicle. Officers canvased the city and located the vehicle parked unoccupied in the Home Depot lot.
Tampering with Fire Alarm – 10200 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 2:56 AM, officers responded to a report of a false fire alarm activated for the second time. The suspect was identified but did not want to speak to the officers.
July 17th
Stolen vehicle – 11299 San Pablo Ave. (Del Norte Market Place):
At 6:02 PM, the victim reported their vehicle was stolen in the parking lot.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave. / MacDonald Ave.
At 8:15 PM, officers received a Flock alert of a stolen vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. The driver spoke to officers and was identified as the owner. The owner told officers they located their own vehicle but failed to notify the police.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle / Possession of Narcotics / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – I-80 Westbound / Central Ave.
At 2:43 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a stolen vehicle. During the investigation. The driver was found to be in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
July 18th
False Fire Alarm - 10200 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1:26 PM, officers responded to a subject who had activated the fire alarm of the building while there was no emergency. The manager reported to officers that this was the fifth time within the week that the subject had falsely pulled the fire alarm. The manager wanted the subject placed under citizen’s arrest. Officers accepted the manager’s citizen arrest and took the subject into custody. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Warrant Arrest / Possession of Narcotics / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – San Pablo Ave. / Madison Ave.
At 8:29 PM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant, and another passenger for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were released on citations.
July 19th
Vandalism – 6700 Fairmount Ave. (R&R Auto Service):
At 2:22 PM, officers arrested a suspect for vandalizing three vehicles at the business. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Residential Burglary – 7900 block of Potrero Ave.
Between the hours of 12:45 PM - 4:45 PM, a suspect burglarized a residence.
July 20th
Theft of License Plate – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness):
At 3:38 PM, the victim reports the theft of their license plate.
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 3:56 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect caught shoplifting. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
