The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, JULY 22, 2024:
 
5:35 AM Officer Lara investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Ruschin Drive & Newark Boulevard. The driver’s side window was smashed in. A nearby resident reported observing two individuals attempting to steal the vehicle and fleeing in a black vehicle.
 
6:35 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. The point of entry was the rear passenger window
 
6:36 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft near Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road.
 
8:18 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a vehicle theft near Haley & Bettencourt Streets. A vehicle glove box was open, and several passports were taken.
 
9:26 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a vehicle burglary near Stevenson Boulevard & Parada Street. The driver’s side window was shattered with no reported loss.
 
5:17 PM CSO Lau investigated a vehicle theft near Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street. The vehicle’s glove box was rummaged through resulting in the loss of paperwork.
 
TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2024:
 
4:36 AM Officer Norvell responded to the area of Quiet Cove Way & Hickory Street for an active vehicle burglary.
 
7:36AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle burglary near 37300 block of Cedar Boulevard. The driver’s side window was shattered.
 
7:40 AM Officer Lor investigated a vehicle theft near Bayonne Drive & Lafayette Avenue.
 
8:02 AM Officer Pacheco investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries near Cherry Street & Stevenson Boulevard. There were no reported losses.
 
8:20 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary near Lafayette Avenue & Christine Street. Reported loss included multiple pairs of new shoes taken from the trunk.
 
10:28 AM CSO Lau investigated a vehicle theft near Hickory Street & Whitesurf Way.
 
1:52 PM CSO Lau responded to a window smash burglary near Flanders & Normandy Drive. Reported loss included a backpack.
 
2:41 PM Officer C. Torres responded to a report of a suspicious person near Mowry School Road & Sawyer Terrace. A 59-year-old male who was under the influence of narcotics was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:03 PM CSO Lau responded to a report of a bicycle taken from a front porch near Sycamore Street & Graham Avenue.
 
6:55 PM Officer Cervantes responded to a report of a stolen vehicle license plate near Kiote Drive & Jarvis Avenue. She then investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Newark Boulevard & Lafayette Avenue.
The vehicle’s sunroof was shattered.
 
9:27 PM Officer Dale investigated a window smash vehicle burglary at Newpark Mall Road & Alpenrose Court. Reported loss included a backpack containing toiletries.
 
WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 2024:
 
5:17 AM Officer Cervantes investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Newark & Cedar Boulevards. Reported loss included the steering wheel airbag.
 
2:48 PM Officer Medina responded to a report of a person with a gun near Cherry Street & Thomas Avenue. A 31-year-old female was arrested for delaying arrest and brandishing a replica firearm. She was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
3:57 PM CSO Lau investigated a report of a bicycle taken from the front porch of a residence near Cherry Street & Dairy Avenue.
 
8:50 PM Officer Dale recovered a stolen vehicle near Saint Matthew & Saint Paul Drives.
 
THURSDAY, JULY 25, 2024:
 
6:51 AM Officers recovered multiple vehicles reported stolen throughout the day within the city.
 
7:14 AM Officer C. Torres investigated two window smash vehicle burglaries near Central Avenue & Willow Street. Reported loss included backpacks from both vehicles.
 
8:51 AM Officer McCuin recovered an unreported stolen vehicle near Cedar Boulevard & North Magazine Road.
 
1:55 PM CSO Lau investigated a vehicle and residential burglary near Jarvis Avenue & Haley Street. The garage door opener taken from the vehicle was used to enter the garage. Reported loss included power tools, a backpack, and holiday decorations.
 
8:22 PM CSO Mora investigated a report of a bicycle taken from the front porch of a residence near Scarborough & Edgewater Drives.
 
3:00 PM - 11:00 PM CSOs Lau and Mora investigated multiple vehicle thefts throughout the evening.
 
11:27 PM Officer Norvell recovered a stolen vehicle on Baine Avenue.
 
FRIDAY, JULY 26, 2024:
 
12:36 AM Officer Pacheco located a stolen vehicle near Thornton Avenue & Willow Street. A 23-year-old male was arrested for possession of the vehicle and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:51 AM Officer Medina investigated multiple vehicle burglaries in a parking lot near Clark Avenue & Cherry Street. Loss included coins from the cupholder and items from glove boxes.
 
1:52 PM Officer Berlanga responded to a report of an unwanted guest near Jarvis Avenue & Dumbarton Court. A 42-year-old male was cited for possession of narcotics.
 
3:01 PM Officer Berlanga responded to a domestic disturbance at Thornton Avenue & Spruce Street. A 27-year-old female was arrested for battery and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:35 PM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle theft near Haley Street & Cedar Boulevard.
 
6:32 PM Officer Kapu recovered a stolen vehicle near Cedar & Lake Boulevard.
 
7:40 PM Officer Lara investigated multiple license plate thefts near Cherry Street & Clark Avenue.  
 
10:26 PM Officer Swadener was on routine patrol near Sycamore Street and arrested a 51-year-old male was for narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SATURDAY, JULY 27, 2024:
 
12:08 AM Officers investigated a vehicle theft near Inverness & Burning Tree Drives. Additional losses included a purse and cell phone.
 
6:28 AM Officer C. Torres, Sergeant Mapes, and Officer Frentescu investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries within the city. Reported loss included power tools.
 
6:33 AM Officer Kim investigated a robbery near Baine Avenue & Cherry Street.
 
7:44 AM Officer Kim responded to a call for help near Cedar Boulevard & Dupont Avenue. A 34-year-old male was arrested for obstruction, and battery. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:46 AM Officers Kim & C. Torres were on proactive patrol on Jarvis Avenue & Dumbarton Court and located a 41-year-old female with outstanding warrants. She was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:45 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a license plate theft near Buena Vista Drive & Cherry Street. He then responded to a window smash vehicle burglary near Olive Street & George Avenue. Reported loss included a gym bag containing personal items.
 
10:27 PM Officer Dale conducted a traffic stop near Cedar Boulevard. A 47-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:20 PM Officer Stevenson & Sergeant Warren recovered a stolen vehicle near Thornton Avenue & Willow Street.
 
11:52 PM Officer Lara investigated several window smash vehicle burglaries in a parking lot near Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. Reported losses included personal items, sunglasses, and shoes.
 
SUNDAY, JULY 28, 2024:
 
5:25 AM Officer Dale recovered a stolen vehicle near Birch Street & Moores Avenue.
 
10:48 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar Boulevard & Bridgepointe Drive. Additional loss included a cellphone.
 
7:08 PM Officer Lara recovered a stolen vehicle near Elm Street & Thornton Avenue.
 
10:19 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a vehicle collision near Thornton Avenue & Cherry Street. A 23-year-old male was arrested for hit & run and obstruction. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
