On July 30, 2024, at approximately 12:40 PM, Arroyo Grande Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Ash Street regarding a disturbance. The reporting party stated that a male was chasing a female, who was screaming for help.
The female called her mother on the reporting party’s phone. The female mentioned that the male subject was possibly going to Burger King. Both the male and female left the area before the officers’ arrival.
As officers drove into the Burger King parking lot, they saw a female enter a vehicle's front passenger seat who matched the description the reporting party provided. Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and contacted 26-year-old Janae Rodriguez of Nipomo, CA, and 30-year-old Kameron Merrilhooper of Oceano, CA.
Merrilhooper is on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS), and Rodriguez is on Own Recognizance (OR) release.
Officers conducted a search per Merrilhooper and Rodriguez’s respective PRCS and OR search terms. Officers located a large quantity of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia, including the evidence of narcotics sales. Merrilhooper was also in possession of a knife in violation of his PRCS terms. Both subjects were placed under arrest.
Due to officers’ prior knowledge of Merrilhooper’s involvement in the sales of narcotics and the items seized at the time of the stop, officers authored a search warrant for Hooper’s residence. A San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Judge granted a search warrant. A search of Merrilhooper’s residence revealed a large quantity of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
Merrilhooper and Rodriguez were charged with the following:
Merrilhooper and Rodriguez were transported and booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail without incident.
Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Officer Brandon Earnest with the Arroyo Grande Police Department at (805) 473-5110 or [email protected].
