On August 4, 1995, Officer Michael Clark responded to a call for help that would ultimately cost him his life. Alongside fellow officers, Officer Clark arrived at a residence to check the welfare of a suicidal man. Tragically, shortly after arriving on scene, Officer Clark was fatally shot by the man he was there to protect. He was only 28 years old.

Officer Michael Clark was more than just a dedicated police officer; he was a hero who exemplified courage and commitment. Before joining the Simi Valley Police Department, where he had served for just four months, Officer Clark had proudly served with the Los Angeles Police Department for over five years. A United States Marine Corps veteran, he brought honor, discipline, and a deep sense of duty to every role he undertook.

His untimely passing serves as a harrowing reminder of the daily risks our officers take to keep the citizens of Simi Valley safe. In recognition of the ultimate sacrifice that Officer Clark made, the Simi Valley Police Department holds an annual solemn ceremony led by the Department’s Honor Guard at the station’s flagstaff.

This August 4^th marks the 29th anniversary of the day Officer Michael F. Clark tragically lost his life while serving our community. In honor of Officer Clark and his family, the Department’s Honor Guard will hold a brief flag-lowering ceremony at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 4th, at the station flagpole (3901 Alamo Street). This ceremony stands as a testament to the enduring respect and gratitude we have for Officer Clark, his family, and all those who continue to protect our community.

We invite the public to join us as we come together to honor Officer Clark’s sacrifice. Your presence would be greatly appreciated. While Class A uniform or business attire is not required, we encourage all to attend in a spirit of respect and unity as we remember a fallen hero.
