* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... East central McDowell County in western North Carolina... West central Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 245 PM EDT.

* At 143 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles northeast of Marion, or near Lake James State Park, moving northeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include... Morganton, Glen Alpine, Lake James State Park, Table Rock, Lake James, Nebo, and Oak Hill.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BURKE, NC ... MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near Lake James, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
