A series of storms begins to impact our area today and continue into Wednesday morning, with 1-3” of rainfall expected for much of Monmouth County with localized higher amounts in excess of 5”. In preparation for the storm, OEM and the Department of Public Works have been managing water levels of our lakes and will make any necessary adjustments to mitigate flooding in the areas surrounding Lake Alberta and Fletcher Lake, within DEP regulations.

The evening commute will likely be hazardous, so plan extra travel time, expect significant roadway flooding and prepare for road closures. Residents should park vehicles on higher ground and avoid any low-lying areas that typically flood during heavy rain. Strong gusty winds have the potential to cause power outages, so be sure to secure any loose outdoor items, keep your electronics charged, report power outages to JCP&L, and call 9-1-1 if you observe downed power lines or trees falling across roadways.
