NWS flood watch in effect at 2 p.m.; City programs postponed

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hoboken at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 6, through tomorrow morning. Rainfall rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible, especially in flood prone and low-lying areas, and during tonight’s high tide which is at approximately 10:50 p.m.  

City programs to be rescheduled

Movies Under the Stars and Concerts in the Park have been cancelled for the rest of this week. Hoboken Cultural Affairs has rescheduled the following events:   

  • Fleur Seule is rescheduled for Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. in ResilienCity Park. 
  • Lulada Club is rescheduled for Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in Sinatra Park.  
  • Barbie the Movie is rescheduled for Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m. in Pier A Park. 
  • Spaceballs will be rescheduled for a future date and announced in the coming weeks.
Please contact individual studios for the status of Fitness in the Park classes.

Tonight’s National Night Out event, hosted by the Hoboken Police Department, is still scheduled to occur. Further notification will be made via Nixle in the event of a cancellation for safety reasons.  

Avoid Flood Prone Areas  

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Mangement (OEM) reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas.

Barricades will be deployed near flood-prone intersections. Do not walk or drive around barricades or through flooded areas.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.     

Remain alert, stay informed, and exercise caution 

Residents are encouraged to limit or avoid travel during periods of heavy rainfall, if possible.    

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts regularly and are encouraged to follow the City’s social media accounts for storm updates including the Hoboken OEM Twitter page at @HobokenOEM, the City’s Twitter page at @CityofHoboken, and the Hoboken Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/Hoboken.
