* Flash Flood Warning for... Southeastern Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey... Bronx County in southeastern New York... Northwestern Nassau County in southeastern New York... New York (Manhattan) County in southeastern New York... South Central Westchester County in southeastern New York...

* Until 945 PM EDT.

* At 742 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2.5 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mott Haven, East Tremont, Hackensack, Glen Cove, Bergenfield, Rye, Ridgefield, Great Neck, Throgs Neck Bridge, Harlem, Riverdale, Co-op City, Fort Lee, Englewood, Port Washington, Bronxville, City Island and Sands Point.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
