Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges.
Beginning in July, members of the Safe Streets Task Force have been conducting an investigation into 31-year-old Jamil Smith for illegal firearm possession, and illegal drug sales. On August 2, at approximately 11:26 p.m., members of the Gun Intelligence Unit were in the 700 block of West Street, when they observed Smith engaged in drug-related activity. Police made contact with Smith, who was taken into custody without incident, and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, and 3.5 grams of crack cocaine.
Smith has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
