Advisory

Monitoring remnant of Tropical Strom Debby. Severe weather and flooding possible.

The Deal Police Department is monitoring the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. The storm will move through the Carolinas and merge with a front, reaching our region on Friday.
Heavy rain and flash flooding potential will continue through Friday, with main stem rivers rising by the weekend, possibly leading to river flooding. There is a marginal risk of severe storms with tornadoes from Friday into Friday evening. Strong winds are expected, with gusts of 35-50 mph, especially in coastal counties. There is also a moderate to high risk of dangerous rip currents along New Jersey and Delaware beaches through Friday.
1. Heavy Rain/Flash Flooding:
There is increased concern for flash flooding, especially along the I-95 corridor and areas to the north and west. The primary period of concern is Friday, with some risk of river flooding lingering into Saturday.
2. Severe Thunderstorms:
Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible, with a heightened risk of tornadoes. The entire region is at risk, particularly Friday into Friday night.
3. Marine and Coastal Hazards:
A Gale Warning is in effect, with difficult marine navigation expected due to gale-force winds and waves up to 8 feet. There is a moderate to high risk for rip currents through Friday night.
4. Tidal Flooding:
Minor tidal flooding is possible, especially in the northeastern Chesapeake Bay. Elevated tide levels are expected but should remain below minor flood thresholds.
We ask residents not to park their vehicles in flood-prone areas and to secure any outdoor furniture. If you live along the beachfront, please ensure your outdoor property is secured.
