Attention, University Park Residents:
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for our area, expected to last until 2:00 PM. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in and near the watch area.
What to do:
- Stay Informed: Monitor local news and weather channels for updates.
- Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not drive or walk through flooded roads or areas. Even a small amount of water can pose a significant danger.
- Prepare: Review your emergency plan and ensure you have a safe location to go to, such as a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
- Stay Alert: Be prepared to take action immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued, meaning a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar.
- Report Downed Wires: If you see any downed wires, do not approach them. Call Pepco at 1-877-737-2662 immediately. For emergencies, dial 911.
- Power Outages: If you experience a power outage, report it to Pepco at 1-877-737-2662 or online at www.pepco.com. You can also sign up for text alerts by texting "OUT" to 48710.
- Downed Trees: If you see a downed tree or large branches blocking roads or sidewalks, please call the non-emergency number at 301-352-1200.
