Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on August 9, 2024 at approximately 1250 Hours, his Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash on US 12 near Anderson Rd., Milton Township, Cass County, Michigan.

The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Leona Ledell, (72 years old of Chicago, IL) was traveling westbound on US 12 when she rear-ended another vehicle driven by Autumn Nussel  (29 years old of Elkhart, IN) who stopped and attempting a left turn from westbound US 12. Nussel had two other passengers, a Lisa Klopenstine (56 years of Elkhart) and a juvenile in her vehicle at the time of the crash. Ledell was transported by ambulance to Lakeland / Corwell Health Niles Hospital for her injuries.   Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. 

All Occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of crash. This crash remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies on scene were Edwardsburg Ambulance and Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police.
