Dear Westlake residents,

I want to take a moment to address the ongoing challenges many of you are facing due to the power outages caused by the severe damage to power lines along Hilliard Boulevard. I fully understand the frustration and hardship this has caused, and I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to expedite the restoration process.

We have been in constant contact with state and county officials, in addition to our dedicated city staff, to accelerate both the cleanup and the restoration of power throughout Westlake. While progress has been slower than we would like, we remain optimistic that additional resources will become available and be deployed to aid in these efforts. As soon as we have more updates, we will share them with you.

I also want to clarify a critical point: The trees that are currently down and entangled with power lines cannot be removed by our city crews until FirstEnergy addresses the power lines themselves. This is a necessary safety measure, and FirstEnergy’s specialized crews are working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.

In the meantime, we are making the community rooms at our Recreation Center available for residents who need access to restrooms, phone charging, and air conditioning. The community rooms will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please note that due to the ongoing shutdown and construction, the locker rooms and showers will not be available.
