Narrative:
In June of this year, a resident at the We Care Elderly Facility in Camarillo noticed charges on her bank checking account she did not authorize.  The victim contacted the Camarillo Police Department, and an investigation was initiated.
 
During the investigation, it was discovered Malith Mendis and his wife owned the We Care Elderly Facility.  Several unauthorized transactions from the victims’ account were used to make personal financial payments on behalf of Malith Mendis, his wife and his father.
 
On 8/8/24, members of the Camarillo Investigations Bureau, Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit, Camarillo Patrol Services and the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on the care facility and Mendis’ residence.  Mendis and his wife were contacted at the elderly facility and based on the investigation; Mendis was determined to be the individual responsible for the unauthorized transactions.
 
Mendis was arrested and subsequently booked into the Ventura County Jail for Violations of PC 368(d)(1) Financial Elder Abuse and PC 530.5(a) Identity Theft.
 
The Camarillo Investigations Bureau worked in conjunction with the State of California Department of Social Services during the service of the search warrant.

The Camarillo Investigations Bureau is comprised of one sergeant and six detectives who conduct investigations into various crimes including but not limited to: robbery, burglary, fraud, forgery, and crimes against persons.
