COMMUNITY ALERT - Thieves targeting vehicles - PLEASE LOCK VEHICLES AND HOMES
This morning, during the overnight hours, two neighborhoods within Huron Township had vehicles stolen as well as thieves going through vehicles. The stolen vehicles were unlocked with keys left inside and the ransacked vehicles were left unlocked. We are strongly urging residents to lock their vehicles, secure vehicle keys and lock home windows, garages and doors where thieves can gain access. In most cases, thieves will bypass a locked vehicle and seek one that is unlocked. Also, take your garage door opener out of your vehicle and into the house behind a locked door if possible.
Our Detective Bureau, Community Policing Team, and Evidence Technician Unit are currently working multiple leads and will work this nonstop well into the overnight hours and throughout the next several days.
We are asking everyone to check video footage as soon as possible from last night. So far, other video footage shows what appears to be at least two black males entering vehicles in a multiple subdivisions. They also appear in the video to be driving an SUV, possibly a Grand Cherokee. Two vehicles were stolen, a silver Chevy Tahoe and a white Dodge Ram. If you see anything suspicious or specifically any of people or vehicles listed above, please contact Detective Wesley Jolly at 734-753-4400.
We will have an increased presence multiple neighborhoods during the overnight hours in the upcoming days. Keep this in mind for situations like this, just because you don't see us does not mean we aren't there. You have my word we will be. Please be vigilant, call us immediately should you see anything suspicious, and be sure to lock your vehicles and residences. You are never wasting our time, this is what we are here for! If it looks suspicious, never hesitate to call!
