Suspect in Family-Owned Business Burglary, Stolen Vehicles & Vandalism Arrested

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety
For Immediate Release: Wedensday, August 14, 2024

Contact: Detective Kevin Escher – (707) 588-3542

On March 10th, 2024, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety (RPDPS) received a report of a burglary and vandalism of a local business. RPDPS Officers responded to the business and discovered that a fence surrounding the rear parking lot of the business had been forced open, several company vehicles were vandalized, the business had obvious signs of forced entry, numerous items of personal property and property of the business were stolen, and two of the business’ vehicles were stolen. Additionally, a hole was created in one of the interior walls and a water line within that wall was broken, causing significant damage to the building. Fortunately, within 24 hours of the initial report, both stolen vehicles were recovered.

In April of 2024, RPDPS Detectives learned that personal checks from the business owner that were stolen during the commission of the burglary were being cashed in various locations. This portion of the investigation led to Detectives identifying Arturo Phillip Muniz as a person of interest. Further investigation into the stolen checks and other activity pertaining to Muniz led to Detectives identifying Muniz as the person that committed the burglary in March of 2024.

On 08/13/2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Arturo Phillip Muniz for:

-A violation of California Penal Code Section 459 – Burglary
-A violation of California Penal Code Section 594(b)(1) – Vandalism causing more than $400 in damage
-A violation of California Vehicle Code Section 10851 – Vehicle Theft

On 08/14/2024, Muniz was located by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody.

RPDPS thanks the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Rosa Police Department for their assistance during this investigation.

This investigation is ongoing. RPDPS asks for anyone that has additional information about this incident to contact Detective K. Escher at (707) 588-3542.
