PRESS RELEASE: SUBJECT: Elder Abuse and Battery Suspect Apprehended

LOCATION:

1800 Block of Broadway, Redwood City

400 County Center, Redwood City

DATE/TIME: August 14, 2024, 07:39 a.m.

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 7:39 A.M., Redwood City Police Officers responded to the 1800 block of Broadway in Redwood City on the report of a customer sitting in their car who was assaulted. Officers learned the suspect was unknown to the customer. The suspect approached the customer and punched the customer several times in the face without warning then walked away. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult in his 20’s. Officers canvased the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

At approximately 8:02 A.M., Redwood City Police Officers responded to 400 County Center in Redwood City on a similar report of a male suspect punching a random community member for no apparent reason. While these victims had no relation to the suspect, it appeared the same suspect was responsible. Redwood City Police Officers obtained video surveillance from each incident and confirmed the same individual perpetrated each event.

At approximately 5:21 P.M., Redwood City Police Officers learned the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a similar battery that had just occurred in the 2500 Block of Middlefield Road in Unincorporated Redwood City. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and apprehended 37 year old Redwood City resident Miguel Angel Landa. Landa was positively identified as the same suspect involved in the two earlier incidents in Redwood City. As is customary in these situations, the agency investigating the more serious criminal offenses, typically takes custody of the suspect. Landa was transferred to the custody of the Redwood City Police Department and placed under arrest for felony violations.

Landa was later booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for the following charges: Penal Code 368(B)(1) – Willful Injury to Elder; Penal Code 242 – Battery; Penal Code 3056 – Violation of Parole.
