South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka called the 2024 National Night Out a huge success. “The capacity crowd filled Rowland Park and brought the entire community together. It is amazing how many residents came out to be part of this special night.”
“The event highlights the police community partnership that is key to all we do,” said Sergeant George Morgan, the coordinator for this year’s event. He added, “Even though it was delayed by one week, all the community partners, volunteers, and sponsors came back to make it a success.”
The perfect weather filled parking lots and drew thousands of people. Volunteers served 2,500 hot dogs, 750 veggie dogs, 1,500 bottles of water, 1,000 ice pops, 2,000 bags of popcorn and chips, and over 500 pizzas. The festive atmosphere featured DJs, dance performers and singers. Several law enforcement groups put on displays including the FBI and IRS. The United States Air Force and Civil Air Patrol had displays as well. The Community Unit portion of the event had dozens of local community groups with displays and information. “It took a lot of work to make this night such a success. We could not have done it without all the people who volunteered to help us,” said Sergeant Morgan.
Chief Hayducka added, “This night just shows what a special community South Brunswick is. It gave residents the opportunity to meet and speak with officers, explain issues, and develop solutions. The night was a success because of all the efforts by officers, civilian police staff, and volunteers.”
National Night Out started as a nationwide campaign in 1984, intending to create better relationships between law enforcement officials elected officials, and community residents. It is one of the largest annual events in South Brunswick. Last year the event was recognized as one of the top National Night Out events nationally.
