Wilmington Police arrest 12-year-old, 13-year-old following attempted vehicle theft, attempted robbery and shots fired incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old following an attempted vehicle theft, attempted robbery and shots fired incident.
On August 12 at approximately 11:24 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Bowers Street in reference to a criminal mischief incident, in which a vehicle was damaged. While on scene, officers heard a single gunshot coming from the 2900 block of Northeast Boulevard. No injuries were reported.
As the investigation continued, it was determined that multiple juvenile suspects attempted to steal a vehicle, causing damage in the process. The suspects also removed a firearm from the vehicle and attempted to rob an individual who confronted them before the suspects fled the area. One of the suspects then discharged the stolen firearm in the 2900 block of Northeast Boulevard.
Police responding to the area located two juvenile suspects, and were able to a 13-year-old male into custody without incident. The second suspect fled from officers on foot.
Officers were able to identify that second suspect – a 12-year-old male – who was located and taken into custody the following day in the 2700 block of Rosemont Avenue. Police subsequently executed a search warrant in that block, and recovered the stolen firearm that was discharged during the original incident.
The 13-year-old male suspect has been charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted Robbery (First Degree)
- Burglary (Third Degree)
- Theft of a Firearm
- Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Criminal Mischief (Under $1,000) – Two Counts
The 12-year-old male suspect has been charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
- Burglary (Third Degree)
- Theft of a Firearm
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Criminal Mischief (Under $1,000) – Two Counts
- Discharging a Firearm on a City Street
- Resisting Arrest
