The scammer is now spoofing the Amarillo Police phone number, 806-378-3038. They are asking the citizens to call back to a cell phone number however. We want to remind you to always always always verify on your own, independently from the caller, before you give any personal information or make any kind of payments.

Attention Amarillo and Canyon area residents: We've been informed of a scam involving a man posing as Amarillo Police Sergeant Kevin Anderson. This individual is calling citizens, falsely claiming they have warrants and demanding payment in bitcoin to avoid arrest.
**Important Reminders:**
- Law enforcement will NEVER ask for payment in bitcoin.
- If someone claims to be an officer, demand their badge number and ID.
- Disconnect the call and verify their identity by contacting your local police department directly. Do not use any phone numbers provided by the caller.
- If you're unsure whether you have warrants, call your local law enforcement agency to check. We will not call you to ask for payment over the phone.
- If you suspect a scam, hang up and consult with someone you trust.
