The Sheriff's Office Conducts Jail Death Investigation SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN. 
On June 1st, 2024, Perez Denis Martinez of Atlanta, Georgia was booked into the Clayton County Jail on Aggravated Animal Cruelty charges with a $4,000.00 bond.
On August 13, 2024, inmate Martinez was seen by medical doctors after a report that he had passed out and hit his head. Medical staff assessed and cleared him to return to his housing unit.
A psychological assessment was also done on August 13, 2024, after officers noted that inmate Martinez was refusing to eat.
On August 15, 2024, inmate Martinez experienced another medical emergency where he lost consciousness and hit his head again.
Martinez was admitted into the infirmary for observation.
On August 16, 2024, while doing rounds in the infirmary, a deputy was alerted that inmate Martinez had again lost consciousness and fell. Medical attention began immediately, and inmate Martinez was transported by Clayton County Emergency Services to Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased from his medical complications.
Clayton County Medical Examiners Office responded and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations was also notified.
Investigations have led to no signs of foul play and that this was a matter of medical emergency. The investigation will remain open until an autopsy is completed by the medical examiner.
