NWS issues flood watch; avoid flood-prone areas

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hoboken today, Aug. 18, through tomorrow morning. Rainfall rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible, especially in flood-prone low-lying areas, and during tonight’s high tide at approximately 8:23 p.m.

Avoid flood-prone areas

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Mangement (OEM) asks residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas.

Barricades will be deployed near flood-prone intersections. Do not walk or drive around barricades or through flooded areas.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Remain alert, stay informed, and exercise caution

Residents are encouraged to limit or avoid travel during periods of heavy rainfall, if possible.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts regularly and are encouraged to follow the City’s social media accounts for storm updates including the Hoboken OEM Twitter page at @HobokenOEM, the City’s Twitter page at @CityofHoboken, and the Hoboken Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/Hoboken.
