Fontana Deputy and Sheriff's Aviation Crew Rescue Stranded Hiker on Mt. Baldy Early Sunday Morning

VICTIM: 26-year-old Female Resident of Huntington Beach
SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at about 1:22 a.m., deputies responded to a search and rescue on Mt. Baldy. The reporting party, a 26-year-old female resident of Huntington Beach, went hiking with friends and intended to camp overnight. She was unable to complete the hike and decided she would return to her vehicle. When she was unable to do so, she found an area with cell phone signal and called 911 for assistance.
The Fontana Station’s on-call Search and Rescue Coordinator, Deputy M. Smoot, responded and coordinated with Corporal R. Peppler and Deputy K. Connors, from Sheriff’s Aviation. The aviation crew located the uninjured hiker on Mt. Baldy. They landed nearby, escorted her to the helicopter, and flew her to safety.
