Three Arrested in Connection with August 15th Shooting in Chino Hills: Victim Remains Hospitalized

LOCATION: 15000 block of Monte Vista Avenue, Chino Hills

SUSPECT(S): Johnny Valadez, a 43-year-old resident of Pomona (Shooter)
James Rodriguez, a 41-year-old resident of Chino Hills
Jonathan Rodriguez, a 18-year-old resident of Chino

SUMMARY: On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at around 11:47 p.m., Chino Hills deputies responded to a shooting at 15000 block of Monte Vista Avenue in Chino Hills. Deputies learned an altercation led to the suspect shooting the victim multiple times. Chino Hills deputies contacted multiple witnesses and secured the crime scene. 

Chino Hills detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They processed the crime scene, conducted interviews, and searched several vehicles for evidence. Their investigation led to the identification of the shooter, Johnny Valadez, a 43-year-old resident of Pomona. Valadez was a career criminal who was on parole. Detectives learned Valadez fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting. 

On Friday, August 16, 2024, at around 3:30 p.m., Valadez was contacted by Chino Hills deputies in Pomona and was arrested. Chino Hills detectives served a search warrant at Valadez's Pomona home. The search warrant led to the recovery of multiple firearms. Valadez was booked at West Valley Detention Center for attempted murder.

James Rodriguez, a 41-year-old resident of Chino Hills, and Jonathan Rodriguez, an 18-year-old resident of Chino, were also arrested in connection to this investigation. They were booked at West Valley Detention Center for conspiracy and accessory after the crime. 

The victim remains at a local trauma center with significant injuries. The victim is expected to survive.
