The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2024:
 
6:49 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft near Bettencourt & Haley Streets. The vehicle was later recovered by a neighboring agency.
 
9:24 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a vehicle theft near Graham Avenue & Olive Street.
 
3:21 PM CSO Lau investigated multiple vehicle thefts near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevard, Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard and a catalytic converter theft near Cherry Street & Baine Avenue.
 
10:14 PM Officer Norvell investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries on Newpark Mall Road. There were no reported losses.
 
11:10 PM Officer Dale investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Sea Turtle Avenue & Dragonfly Street. A bag of miscellaneous clothing articles for donation was recovered.
 
TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2024:
 
12:24 AM Officer Norvell investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Cherry Street & Joaquin Murieta Avenue. The storage compartment of the vehicle was rummaged through, and the loss is currently unknown.
 
1:57 AM Officer Cervantes investigated a theft from an unlocked vehicle near Willow Street & Central Avenue. The garage door opener was stolen. The following day, the resident reported a person attempting to open the garage, but fled upon noticing the resident was home.
 
9:23 AM CSO Lau investigated a window smash vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. There was no reported loss.
 
11:34 AM Officer Jackman conducted a traffic stop near Mayhews Landing Road. A 60-year-old male was cited and released for an outstanding warrant.
 
3:39 PM CSO Lau investigated a license plate theft near Central Avenue & Willow Street.
 
4:34 PM Officer Quinonez responded to a report of a restraining order violation near Filbert Street & Wells Avenue. A 57-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for violation of a court order.
 
5:59 PM Officer Pacheco recovered a stolen vehicle near Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
7:14 PM Officer Dale investigated multiple license plates thefts near Cherry Street & Mowry Avenue. He then investigated multiple vehicle burglaries near Central Avenue & Willow Street.
 
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2024:
 
6:40 AM Officer Medina investigated a locker burglary on Newpark Mall Road with reported loss including jewelry and vehicle keys.
 
8:28 AM Officer S. Torres investigated an attempted residential burglary near Bettencourt Street & Indian Wells Drive. Pry marks were discovered on the door frame, however no entry was made.

9:45 AM Officer Berlanga recovered a stolen vehicle near Parada Street & Stevenson Boulevard.
 
12:14 PM Officer C. Torres identified a suspicious vehicle near Mowry Avenue & Cherry Street. A 52 and 53-year-old male were both arrested for possession of narcotics, incorrect license plate tags, and an outstanding felony warrant. The 53-year-old male was booked into Santa Rita Jail, and the 52-year-old male was released on scene.
 
1:25 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle burglary near Spruce Street & Shorehaven Avenue.
 
7:20 PM Officer Norvell recovered a stolen vehicle near Clark Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2024:
 
1:52 AM Officer Norvell investigated multiple vehicle burglaries near Parada & Cherry Streets. The loss is currently unknown.
 
5:09 AM Officer Pacheco investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Birch Street & Peppertree Court. Reported loss included cash taken from the vehicle.
 
8:58 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a report of a suspicious person near Sycamore Street & Thornton Avenue. A 21-year-old male was arrested for narcotics and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:25 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Birch Street. Several dozen computer components were stolen from the rear trunk of the vehicle.  
 
9:48 AM Officer S. Torres responded to a report of an unwanted guest near Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. A 42-year-old male was arrested for narcotics and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:00 PM CSO Mora & Officer Berlanga investigated multiple reports of package thefts throughout the city.
 
FRIDAY, AUGUST 16, 2024:
 
9:21 AM Officer S. Torres responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Mayhews Landing Road & Fair Avenue. The vehicle was determined to be stolen and was recovered.
 
2:20 PM Officer Medina recovered a stolen vehicle near Central Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
5:14 PM Officer C. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard.
 
9:09 PM Officer Stevenson responded to a trespasser near Cherry Street & Central Avenue. A 40-year-old female was arrested for brandishing a deadly weapon and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:52 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a retail theft near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards.
 
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2024:
 
1:42 AM Officer Lara recovered a stolen vehicle near Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
2:40 AM Officer Kapu investigated a vehicle theft near Wells Avenue & Filbert Street.
 
4:21 AM Officer Kapu recovered a stolen vehicle near Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard.
 
9:06 AM Officer Kim investigated an attempted vehicle burglary from the storage component of a truck near Sycamore Street & George Avenue. The lock was forced open, but there was no reported loss because the owner took prior precautions.
 
10:52 AM Officer McCuin recovered a stolen vehicle near Central Avenue & Filbert Street.
 
12:24 PM Officer Frentescu investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Newark Boulevard & Dairy Avenue. Reported loss included power and industrial tools.
 
2:46 PM Officer McCuin investigated a shoplifting incident near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard. A 31-year-old male was identified as the suspect, and he was released on scene with a citation.
 
3:52 PM Officer Frentescu responded to a disturbance near Thornton Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. A 21-year-old male was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and an outstanding warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:52 PM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle theft on Newpark Mall Road. Reported loss included a wallet and personal items left in the trunk.
 
7:14 PM Officer Williams investigated a report of multiple trespassers near Mirabeau Drive & Cedar Boulevard. Multiple individuals were detained and questioned.
 
7:43 PM CSO Mora transported a 41-year-old male to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
8:49 PM Officer Soto investigated a vehicle theft near Port Sailwood drive & Cedar Boulevard. The doors were reportedly left unlocked.
 
11:58 PM Officers investigated a battery in progress near Newark & Cedar Boulevard. A 32-year-old male was arrested for aggravated assault and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2024:
 
3:48 AM Officer Williams was on routine patrol and conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue. A 39-year-old male was arrested for driving without license plates, and with a suspended license. He was released on scene with a citation.
 
7:03 AM Officer Kim investigated a report of a person with a weapon near Balentine Drive & Stevenson Boulevard. A 46-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and identity theft. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
8:57 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle thefts in the following areas:

• Ruschin Drive & Newark Boulevard
• Haley Street & Cedar Boulevard
• Cedar Boulevard & Birch Street

 
11:58 AM Officer Orozco arrested a 70-year-old male near Cedar Boulevard & Central Avenue for public intoxication and he was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:31 PM Officer Lara arrested a 22-year-old male for trespassing, and violation of probation near Cedar Boulevard & Lafayette Avenue. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
8:38 PM Officer Stevenson arrested a 60-year-old male for possession of narcotics near Filbert Street & Enterprise Drive. He was released on scene with a citation.
 
10:31 PM Officer Soto investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Mowry Avenue & Newpark Mall Road. Reported loss included a suitcase containing a passport, driver’s license, and other personal items.
 
10:44 PM Officer Kapu investigated a battery in-progress near Sycamore Street & George Avenue. A 22-year-old male was arrested for disorderly conduct and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
