OPD Arrests Two Suspects in August 2024 Homicides
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) has arrested two individuals in connection with the homicides that occurred on August 17, 2024, in the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue.
The arrests took place on Monday, and this remains an ongoing investigation.
The case will be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s office for further action.
Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred on August 17, 2024, in the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue, just after 9:00 AM. As officers responded to the area to investigate a ShotSpotter activation, the OPD Communication Division was notified of a shooting in the area.
When officers arrived, they located four victims who sustained a gunshot wound(s). Officers provided medical attention to the victims until paramedic personnel arrived on scene to assist. Unfortunately, two of the victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. The other two victims were transported to area hospitals for additional treatment. Both are listed in critical condition.
During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that several individuals were engaged in a verbal altercation. The altercation escalated when an individual produced a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the group of individuals striking the victims. The armed individual fled the scene in a vehicle after the incident.
The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
