Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Two Officers Injured While Arresting a Disorderly Subject
On August 19, 2024 Gloucester Township Police responded to the Fairways Apartment Complex in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township for a reported disturbance inside an apartment. While officers were speaking with witnesses in the area and identifying the apartment with the disturbance, a male subject opened the door from the residence in question and began shouting at officers to leave. The male, identified as John R. Marchetti Jr, was highly antagonistic, aggressive, and belligerent towards officers on scene, who were conducting their investigation. Despite the officers attempts to de-escalate the subject, he continued to berate officers and challenged their presence both verbally and physically. Ultimately the accused lunged toward officers, resulting in a brief struggle between him and the two officers. The officers were able to get control of Mr. Marchetti and he was placed in custody.
As a result of the struggle, two officers sustained injuries and were treated at a local hospital. The accused was also transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and clearance. At the completion of the investigation for the call for service, John Marchetti was charged with the following offenses: Obstruction, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Assault on Police (2 counts) and Criminal Mischief. He was charged on a criminal warrant and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in accordance with New Jersey bail reform.
