Police Seek Help Identifying Aggravated Assault Stabbing Suspect
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with an aggravated assault stabbing that occurred on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
At approximately 5 a.m., the victim, accompanied by a male and female, was walking in the 700 block of South 12th Street. A group of three males and three females approached them, making flirting advances towards the victim’s female companion. A physical altercation ensued in which the male suspects removed the belts from their pants and began swinging them toward the victim and his male companion. One of the male suspects brandished a black box cutter and lunged toward the victim before the group fled, heading north on South 12th Street toward Springfield Avenue.
The victim lost consciousness and was bleeding heavily. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition. The second male suspect also suffered a minor cut during the fight.
Detectives investigating this incident describe the stabbing suspect as a Hispanic male wearing a black ski mask, black sweater, and black and red shoes.
