Marc Shearer was arrested by detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Unit for failing to update his address as required by law as a sexual offender. In July 2024, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Unit was conducting an unannounced sexual offender compliance check around Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village. As part of these compliance checks, registered sexual offenders who are not contacted are accounted for in the days and weeks after the check. During this follow up, Marc Shearer was not accounted for, and an investigation began to verify his whereabouts. Detectives discovered Shearer was staying around the 4200 block of North Ventura Avenue in the unincorporated area North of the City of Ventura. It is believed Shearer has been in that area for several months. Detectives contacted Shearer in the same area and arrested him without incident. Shearer was booked into the Ventura County Jail for a violation of California Penal Code 290.013(a), Failure to Update/Provide a Change of Address. His bail is set at $20,000.00. California Penal Code 290 has several requirements for people registering as sexual offenders, one of which is that they provide local law enforcement their current address every year and when they move. Sexual Offenders who are transient are required to register every thirty days. Information about California Penal Code 290 and Megan’s Law can be found at www.meganslaw.ca.gov . Searches can also be conducted to find sexual offenders. Searches can be made by name, address, city, county, and zip code. |
