Public invited to honor Damon Murray at gym renaming ceremony; Free open court time to follow
On Aug. 29, at 2 p.m., Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken will rename the gymnasium at 605 Jackson St. in honor of Damon Murray, a lifelong Hoboken resident who lost his life to gun violence last spring at the age of 21.
Members of the public are invited to the ceremony where Mayor Bhalla, Damon’s family and friends, and community members will unveil new exterior signage naming the gym the “Damon Murray Community Gym.” An honorary plaque will also be unveiled by the main entrance to the gymnasium.
During the ceremony, Damon will posthumously be made a member of the Hoboken Fire Department, a career path Damon was embarking on at the time of his death.
Following the dedication, local youth and families will be invited to enjoy open court time at the new “Damon Murray Community Gym,” until 4 p.m.
