Press Release for Armed Robbery at Loves Truck Stop August 23, 2024
On August 23rd, 2024 at approximately 1:48PM the Marion Police Department responded to an Armed Robbery at Loves Truck Stop located at 3308 NC 226 South in Marion. Preliminary investigation indicates that an individual driving a 2003 Isuzu SUV towing a U-Haul trailer was pumping gas when an unknown white male approached him and brandished a handgun. The suspect pointed the handgun at the individual and demanded he give him the vehicle. The owner stepped out of the way allowing the suspect to take his vehicle and flee the parking lot.
Marion Police Officers along with several other law enforcement agencies responded to the scene within minutes and began to look for the stolen vehicle. Immediate searches in nearby locations were unsuccessful. However, approximately an hour later the vehicle was located and stopped by Morganton Public Safety officers on Carbon City Road in Morganton. The suspect that was driving was identified as Jon Carlo Lamore of Boone NC. He was arrested, transported back to McDowell County and charged with the following.
1 count Felony Armed Robbery
2 counts Felony Larceny
1 count Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun
Lamore was taken before a Magistrate where he was given no bond and then confined in the McDowell County Jail. The Marion Police Department would like to thank the North Carolina Highway Patrol, NC State Bureau of Investigations, NC License and Theft, McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and Morganton Department of Public Safety for their assistance during this incident.
