On Saturday August 24, 2024 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Harper Woods Police Officers were dispatched to the 18800 block of Woodland on the report of a barricaded gunman. The 57-year male resident had not taken his medications for several months and was in a mental crisis. He barricaed himself in the basmeent with a rifle. The wife left the residence and called police. The Eastern Wayne County Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. The mentally distressed husband was ordered out of the residence via loudspeaker and complied. At approximately 7:45 p.m. he was taken into protective custody without further incident and committed into a local hospital for a mental evaluation. There were no injuries sustained during the incident. A loaded rifle was located in in the basement of the residence and seized by police.
