SW Traffic Advisory issued; Top Gun screens tomorrow; Free eye clinic offered; Register for pickleball

Jefferson Street and Observer Highway closures planned for tomorrow

As part of the Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority (JCMUA) water main interconnection project, contractors will be test pitting at the intersection of Observer Highway and Jefferson Street in Hoboken tomorrow, Aug. 28, through Friday, Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jefferson Street will be closed from Observer Highway to First Street. Observer Highway will be closed from Jefferson Street to Madison Street and Newark Street will be closed from Jefferson Street to Adams Street.

The following detours will be in place during work hours: 

  • Eastbound traffic on Observer Highway will be detoured at Madsion Street onto First Street. 
  • Westbound traffic on Newark Street will be detoured at Adams Street onto Second Street.   

Hoboken Police Officers will be on site to assist with traffic control and pedestrian safety. Drivers are encouraged to leave extra travel time or use alternate northern routes into and out of Hoboken during work hours.

REMINDER: Top Gun screening at Pier A tomorrow 

The City of Hoboken's free screening of the 1986 action-drama Top Gun is tomorrow at Pier A Park as part of the Movies Under the Stars program.

Hoboken community members can come at 7:30 p.m. to try your hand at flying using two flight simulators provided by Hoboken High School. The screening starts at 8:30 pm. 

Attend a free eye clinic Sept. 4 

The Office of Constituent Services is partnering with the NJ Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired to bring a free eye clinic to the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St., on Wednesday, Sept. 4, starting at 10 a.m. The clinic is first come, first served—no registration is required. 

Register for fall pickleball

The City’s Recreation Division will offer two adult pickleball sessions this fall at the Multi-Service Center gym, 124 Grand St. The first session will run from Sept. 9 through Oct. 28. Registration for this session will open on Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. The second session will be held from Nov. 4 to Dec. 16 with registration opening on Oct. 14 at 5 p.m.

For each session, advanced players will play from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., intermediate/ advanced players from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and advanced beginners/ intermediate players from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Each session is seven weeks long and costs $35 for Hoboken residents. Due to limited availability, participants may only register for one session.
