Operation Safe Schools to begin!
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced Tuesday that 2024 Operation Safe Schools will kick off starting Wednesday, August 28th. As students head back to the private and public schools, police will enhance their presence around all schools and school zones. The program will place officers at every school in the district at the start and end of the school day. At any one time, more than a dozen officers will be dedicated to the operation. The Police Department would like to remind motorists to add additional time for morning commutes.
All South Brunswick public school students will return to school on Thursday, September 5th. The peak time we will see impact in traffic and pedestrians will be at the start and end of the school days. There will be nearly 8,000 students entering schools between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. The dismissals at the schools are between 2:20 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. It typically takes a few days for people to adjust to buses and parents dropping off students. Drivers should allow for added time in the first few days of the school year.
Let's make it a great school year by raising awareness and reducing speed.
