Familial Disturbance Leads to Stolen Vehicle and Warrant Arrest
Suspect takes family member’s vehicle and cellphone without permission after altercation turns physical.
San Mateo, CA – On Monday, August 27, 2024, at 9:58am, San Mateo Police received a 911 call where a verbal argument was overheard in the background before the call was disconnected. Dispatchers were able to determine the location where the call originated and then received a call back stating a physical family disturbance was occurring at the location. Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Maxine Ave., but while enroute, learned the aggressor had left the home in his mother’s vehicle and with her cell phone, without her permission, after preventing her from calling police. It was also learned the subject, identified as Gerardo Delgado, had a warrant for his arrest.
By tracking the cellphone, SMPD was able to see the vehicle had traveled through Hillsborough and then ultimately to the area of Alameda de las Pulgas and Highway 92. With that information, officers were able to respond there in an attempt to locate the vehicle, which they did.
Delgado was arrested without incident on his warrant, as well as for battery, grand theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and vandalism. He was transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail.
