Denville is experiencing an increase in black bear activity throughout the township. The following tips will limit the bear activity in your neighborhoods.  

1. Garbage  

   - Place ammonia inside the bags before closing them.
   - Store cans away from your house.  
   - Keep cans clean and covered.  
   - Put cans out the morning of pickup.  

2. Remove bird feeders until November.  

3. Pickup and remove acorns often, as they are a large source of a bear's diet.

4. Clean grills after use.  

5. If you see a bear, remain calm and stay away. They have no interest in you.  

6. Keep your dogs on a leash when walking. 

7. If possible, install motion lights in your yards.
