Simi Valley CERT Training - REGISTER NOW
Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services will host a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training from September 11th to October 16th, 2024 as well as a Spanish-language Training from September 10th to October 15th, 2024 to help our citizens become more prepared and resilient. Register by 9/3/24 to help meet the class minimum registrations.
CERT is a perfect "fit" for people who are interested in serving our community by assisting their family and neighbors during emergencies or other disaster situations. Students will learn how to build an emergency supply kit and what types of supplies are necessary for a true emergency. CERT teaches basic disaster response skills, such as extinguishing small fires, light search and rescue, team organization, and medical dos and don'ts in a disaster.
People aged 12 or older are eligible to participate in the free CERT Training. Each participant will receive a student workbook, a CERT start-up kit (helmet, work gloves, vest, safety goggles, and flashlight), and a certificate upon completion of the entire course. (Participants ages 12-17 can enroll with a parent or guardian and will perform required skills tasks only on their accompanying parent or guardian.) This course counts as 24 volunteer hours, for those looking to accrue community service hours.
Classes are held on six consecutive evenings from 6pm – 9pm at the city's Emergency Operations Center, located at the Simi Valley Police Department. Spanish courses will be held on Tuesdays and English courses will be on Wednesdays. A one-day disaster simulation wraps up the course and will be held on Saturday October 26th at the VCFD Regional Training Center in Camarillo, CA.
