Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on September 1, 2024, at approximately 1952 Hours, his Deputies responded to an ATV crash, at 67939 Tharp Lake St, Calvin Twp., Cass County, Michigan.  
 
The initial investigation showed that the ATV driven by Thomas Klaer (29 YO of Elkhart, IN) was traveling through the yard of the residence at a high rate of speed. Klaer lost control of the ATV when he hit a ditch, which caused him to hit his head on the handlebars, and separating him from the ATV. Klaer was transported by SMCAS ambulance to Elkhart Hospital General for injuries sustained in this crash.
 
 
 A helmet was not worn at the time of the crash.
 
Assisting agencies on scene were Penn Fire and SMCAS Ambulance.
 
The crash remains under investigation
