Newark Police Department: 1 Arrested & 23 Cited at DUI Checkpoint 
Newark, CA – On Friday, August 30, 2024 the Newark Police Department held a DUI checkpoint near the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.
One driver was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), and 21 drivers were issued citations for either driving without a license, or for driving on a suspended or revoked license.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The next DUI checkpoint will be held during the National Winter Mobilization in late 2024.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
