Third arrest made in connection to Hilanda Drive homicide investigation 
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a homicide in the Hilanda Drive community in Burton has led to a third arrest. 36-year-old Roland Saul Bardales-Rivera was arrested for murder and is in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
The Sheriff’s Office has continued its investigation into the murder of 26-year-old Jarin Josiel Avila-Chirinos that occurred in the Hilanda Drive community last week. Through that investigation, Bardales-Rivera was identified as one of the suspects in the murder of Avila-Chirinos.
On Friday, August 30, 2024, investigators arrested 36-year-old Erbert Francisco Vargas-Caballero for murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. 33-year-old Edwin Humberto Martinez-Ruiz was arrested for accessory after the fact of murder. Both remain in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
