SUMMARY: On September 2, 2024, at approximately 7:28 p.m., an unknown white male adult armed with a handgun robbed an employee working at the ARCO gas station, at 1670 Devore Road. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of US currency from the register and fled on foot. The employee got the attention of a security guard at a business nearby to request assistence. The security guard attempted to follow the robbery suspect, who entered a red Nissan Altima which was waiting nearby. The suspect fired the handgun toward the security guard, and the vehicle entered the freeway on ramp. The Nissan stalled on the freeway on ramp and a CHP Officer made contact with the occupants. While the driver, Robert Simmons, was being removed from the vehicle, the robbery suspect fled from the passenger side of the vehicle and evaded officers. Simmons claimed he had been carjacked by the suspect, however, investigators later determined Simmons had lied to the officer and was involved in the robbery.
On September 3, 2024, detectives from Central Station conducted follow up investigations with several leads. Through their investigation, Christopher Michael Snively was identified as the robbery suspect and determined to be on active felony probation. Search warrants were served related to Snively, and detectives were able to recover evidence which linked Snively to the robbery. A witness to the robbery provided additional information and Detectives were able to recover the firearm used by Snively.
Snively who is a career criminal, was arrested for armed robbery, attempted murder, criminal threats, felon in possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Snively was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is currently being held without bail.
Simmons was arrested for robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony. Simmons was booked at the Central Detention Center and is currently being held on a $350,000 bail.
