Operation Summer Slam Leads to Significant Seizures and Arrests
In a targeted initiative over the summer, the McDowell Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team (CIT), successfully executed Operation Summer Slam.
The months-long effort was aimed at disrupting illegal drug activities across McDowell County and led to multiple seizures and arrests, which included the following:
- 256 grams of Methamphetamine
- 31 grams of Fentanyl
- 493 grams of Marijuana
- 1 Stolen Firearm
- 2 Firearms Seized During Drug Arrests
- 1 Fugitive from Justice
- $4,736 US Currency
“We are proud of our team and the hard work they have put toward this initiative,” said Sheriff Ricky Buchanan. “Their dedication to protecting the health and safety of our citizens does not go unnoticed. This operation reflects only a portion of their ongoing efforts to address the challenges presented by criminal activity in our area.”
Along with CIT, gratitude is extended to partnering agencies Marion Police Department, N.C. Highway Patrol and the N.C. Division of Community Corrections.
From these efforts, the following individuals were charged:
- James David Huskins, 60, of Nebo with felony Possession of Methamphetamine, misdemeanor Drug Equipment Violations and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
- Jose De Jesus Beltran-Ponce, 51, of Marion with felony Out-of-State Fugitive Warrant.
- Barbara Ann Barr, 34, of Marion with felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and felony Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
- John Darryl Robinson, 51, of Marion with felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
- Timothy Allen Davidson, 37, of Marion with felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm and felony Possession of Firearm by Felon.
- Shantel Lynn Emory, 51, of Nebo with felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine and felony Possession of Methamphetamine.
- Winful Lamar Stallings, 51, of Asheville with felony Maintaining a Vehicle, Dwelling or Place for a Controlled Substance, felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance and felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
- Archie Russell, 56, of Marion with felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
- Miles Adawanni Pierce, 38, of Marion with 2 counts felony Trafficking in Opium or Heroin, felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance and felony Maintaining a Vehicle, Dwelling or Place for a Controlled Substance.
- Joshua Lane Wilson, 40, of Marion with 2 counts felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine, felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
- Tyler Scott Robinson, 20, of Black Mountain with felony Possession of Methamphetamine and misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
- Brandon Shane Bailey, 40, of Old Fort with felony Possession of Marijuana, felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Marijuana and felony Maintaning a Vehicle, Dwelling or Place for a Controlled Substance.
- Jacob Michael Baker, 36, of Nebo with felony to Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, misdemeanor Speeding and misdemeanor Reckless Driving to Endanger.
- Kenneth Chad Presnell, 40, of Marion with felony Possession of Methamphetamine and felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
- Elisha Peak Presnell, 42, of Marion with felony Possession a Methamphetamine and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
- April Dawn Conner, 40, of Nebo with felony Possession of Methamphetamine.
- Dana Henson Morgan, 39, of Marion with felony Possession of Methamphetamine and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
CIT directs its focus to high-complaint traffic areas where suspected criminal activity is being reported.
“The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of McDowell County,” said Sheriff Ricky Buchanan. “We place high value on our citizens and will hold those who break the law accountable for their actions.”
