The Leonia Police Department would like to alert the residents of a new internet scam that has come to our attention. The latest scam has been received by several resident already. All the incidents reported to our department have been generated from a gmail email address. The author of the email attempts to make the email personal. They will include your name and address. They will even add a picture of the outside of your home. Most likely taken from Google Maps. The email will explain that they have been monitoring your online activity and activity in your home. They suggest that you pay them up to $2000 by providing QR code.  They will use the scare tactic of threaten to release your information to the public if they do not receive the money. The Leonia Police Department has been in contact with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in relation to this particular scam.
