DATE/TIME: Tuesaday, September 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
INCIDENT: Child Endangerment
LOCATION: 10000 block of Poplar Street, Loma Linda
SUSPECT(S): April Brooks, 36-year-old resident of Loma Linda
VICTIM(S): Confidential Male Juvenile
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, deputies assigned to the Central Station responded to an elementary school, in the city of Loma Linda, for a report of child abuse. The juvenile victim had a burn mark on his neck and a contusion on his forehead. Deputies learned April Brooks' boyfriend, named as "Kristen 'Kris' Michaels," caused the contusion when he kicked the victim in the head. Additional abuse to the victim and other children in the home was reported.
Brooks was aware of the abuse and allowed Michaels to remain in the home with the victims. Brooks failed to protect the children in her care. She was arrested and booked into Central Detention Center for PC 273a(a), child endangerment. Brooks was uncooperative in identifying Michaels and refused to provide information that would assist deputies in contacting him.
Detectives assigned to the Central Station are asking the public for help in identifying Michaels. Michaels was described as a tall, black male adult, with long black hair, tattoos on his face and a facial piercing below his eye.
