A September 11th Message from Mayor Tom Giordano
My Dear Neighbors & Friends
Today across our country, communities like Waldwick are holding ceremonies to honor the memory of the 2997 innocent Americans who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, in New York, at the Pentagon and on Flight #93.
We pray today for all who lost their lives and those that are left behind. We pray for one of our own residents John Griffin who left home that day to never return. May John’s family find comfort in knowing his memory will never be forgotten here in Waldwick.
We pray and thank the entire emergency personnel who responded that day; they did not worry about themselves but worried about others. They had one goal and that was to protect and rebuild our country.
May we as a community continue to remember September 11th so that future generations will understand the devastating loss and the sacrifices made by so many brave and courageous people.
Despite the horror and tragedy of September 11th, our country remains a shelter of peace, a symbol of freedom, a beacon of light, compassion, and justice to the downtrodden and oppressed of the world.
May we teach our children to learn and to think, to consider and to reason, to be courageous in thought and in deeds, to nurture hearts of wisdom that they may do battle against fear, hatred and bigotry using weapons of the spirit and loving hearts.
“The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead, we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel a renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic, and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.” — Rudy Giuliani
This American spirit cannot be destroyed, and it lives within each one of us. This spirit is the spirit of our future.
Let us today take moment of silence to remember the fallen, their families, and the many heroes who gave their life in service. Always remember, as a community, we don't forget, we won't forget, and we will never forget.
