Police Seek Help Identifying Suspect in Shooting Investigation

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help identifying the below-pictured suspect and an occupant of the suspect’s vehicle in connection with a shooting that occurred on Monday, September 2, 2024.

At approximately 11:02 p.m., Police responded to the 500 block of Clinton Avenue on a call of a shooting. Responding officers located three victims, a woman and two men, who had been shot. Each victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and each is reportedly in stable condition. A fourth victim, a man, arrived at University Hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries sustained at the same location. He is also reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives investigating this incident are seeking the identity of the below-pictured suspect who was observed on social media exiting a stolen blue Honda Accord and pulling the door handle of a parked vehicle. The Honda was stolen out of Newark on August 30, 2024.

The suspect also was observed exiting the blue Honda Accord and stealing a white 4-door 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA, which was used in the shooting. The white Mercedes Benz was reported stolen out of East Orange on September 2, 2024, and was later recovered at Stecher Street near Lyons Avenue in Newark. It had been set on fire and was extinguished by Newark Firefighters.

The suspect is described as having a heavy-set build, wearing a black ski mask, dark-colored baseball cap, hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored shirt hanging from underneath, dark-colored sweatpants, dark-colored gloves, and gray New Balance sneakers. No description of the vehicle’s occupant/passenger is currently available.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about this suspect and/or his occupant(s) to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
